Very friendly, very big church. Lots of helpful people getting you in and where you want to be.
Notes: They don't do communion on Sundays, which I realized a few months in was actually a big deal for me (I think they encourage small groups to do it). Pastor Jimmy is a sweet guy, but relies a lot on what I call "miracle preaching," in which he emphasizes the role of miracles he's seen or heard of in the sermon's topic. That was tough for me because I work in a field of few miracles and a lot of just handling tragedy the best you can. I'd much rather hear about the Holy Spirit walking someone through the pain of tragedy than some 1/1000 miracle birth or something. It's not LGBT friendly, which is pretty standard in Texas, but there are a few great Waco churches that are LGBT friendly so don't give up.
Pros: Hands down, the most diverse congregation in Waco. Beautiful facility, great worship band, extremely organized, very sweet small groups to help members feel included. Vincent Carpenter preaches here sometimes and he is an change-how-you-see-Jesus insightful guy. The love of God is real in this church.
Such an amazing church! They are very much living out what the book of Acts says what the church is to be. The worship is genuine and very well balanced.
I appreciate my experiences at Antioch and find that I am becoming a more mature believer in God. I find a quiet joy present in many of the people and have been encouraged in practical ways to develop that joy in myself.
Growing up in a military family, I had a different church home every two years of my life until I attended Baylor University. I went to Antioch my first Sunday as a college student and never went anywhere else. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of incredible churches out there. But for me and many others, Antioch has been and continues to be the best community I've ever been a part of. Since joining the church I've grown so much in my relationship with God, followed some incredible leaders, and made my best friends here. It's full of people that, despite their imperfections, just want to love God and love others at the end of the day. If you're looking for a church, check this one out!
Overall, God centered church with really sweet people and a strong organization. If you're looking for communion, realistic preaching, or LGBT friendliness, go elsewhere.
